Pale Imitation

And then I grew a
beard
the way I saw in a
Men’s magazine,
mirror-like
a pioneer’s image
razor sharp.

And when I blazed my
beard
the way my accent led me,
did I grow
–or do I err–
a shade or two
further foreigner?
